    This is a mid-level position responsible for supporting Washington State’s multi-caucus Forest Practices Adaptive Management Program (AMP) by managing the effective and efficient execution of Cooperative Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Committee (CMER) research and monitoring projects. The majority of work involves working with project managers, scientists and resource specialists representing AMP stakeholders who provide science-based and technical recommendations to assist the Forests and Fish Policy Committee and Forest Practices Board in determining if and when it is necessary or advisable to adjust forest practice laws, rules, or guidance for aquatic resources to achieve Forest Practices Habitat Conservation Plan resource goals and objectives.

    • A bachelor degree with a major study in a natural resource science (e.g., forestry, fish biology/management, wildlife management/biology, riparian ecology) or business management; AND
    • Three years professional work experience in one of these fields. Substantial professional work experience can be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
    • Experience in project management, or as a policy analyst or consultant in a natural resource or environmental field.
    • Three years of natural resource knowledge-based project management or contract experience to include writing/managing project statements of work, budgets, and schedules.
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of project management planning, principles and techniques.
    • Practical experience functioning effectively and producing results in a cooperative natural resource management and/or research program.
    • Exceptional interpersonal communications with multiple media and practical group process experience (facilitation, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution).
    • Creative problem solver, demonstrated ability to think strategically and act assertively while maintaining productive professional relationships.
    • Ability to research, analyze, and think critically, including creativity and innovation where appropriate.

    • Practical experience working with the Washington Forest Practices Rules and the Forest Practices Adaptive Management Program.
    • Practical experience managing forestry/aquatic resource interaction research and monitoring projects.
    • Practical experience working in a cooperative, consensus based research and monitoring program.
    • Three or more years of working experience in project or contract management.
    • A degree or certification in project management.

    • Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
    • The incumbent in this position is required to travel periodically.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.
