Herrera seeks a mid-level Environmental Permitting Coordinator / Wetland Scientist (education, certification, and experience sought in both disciplines) with a strong work ethic for our Seattle office.
You will work closely with senior staff and project managers to provide support on projects involving environmentally critical areas analysis and reporting, mitigation planning and reporting, and environmental permitting (most often for public infrastructure projects). You will also integrate wetland biology, riparian/stream ecology, and hydrology to assess habitat conditions, characterize environmental impacts, and participate in designing innovative restoration and mitigation solutions for wetlands and fish and wildlife habitat projects. You will also perform biological studies (wetland assessment, monitoring, and delineations; habitat characterization; and shoreline assessment and surveys), and related research and field work. The qualified individual will have strong field skills and research skills, strong knowledge of aquatic permitting requirements, perform a variety of analyses in the office, prepare reports and permit applications, and track permitting schedules to support projects throughout the Pacific Northwest.
The position requires excellent writing skills, project management experience (including scoping and budgeting), ability to work well within project teams and autonomously, technical proficiency in current protocols (wetland delineations, ESA-listed species habitat assessments), and a solid understanding of municipal critical areas and shoreline codes, state and federal regulations, and associated reporting/permitting requirements for projects affecting wetlands, streams, and shorelines. Periodic travel to project sites throughout the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere in the western U.S. may be required.
