The mission of the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is to be a leader in restoring, maintaining and enhancing the quality of Oregon's air, water and land. DEQ has a centralized policy and planning component and a regional component to accomplish this mission.
The Environmental Cleanup Program has broad responsibility to ensure releases of hazardous substances from facilities do not endanger public health or the environment. Included are responsibilities for maintaining a site inventory, investigating and monitoring sites, site cleanup and restoration. The program is statewide and affects owners and operators, both past and present, of facilities which may have handled hazardous substances or generated hazardous residues.
The purpose of this position is to serve as a project engineer/project manager during site investigations, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial design, construction and operation and maintenance of cleanup actions at hazardous substance (Cleanup) sites to protect public health, safety, welfare and the environment. This position also provides technical assistance to Regional and Headquarters staff regarding hazardous substance and hazardous waste cleanup technologies, monitoring and policy development.
This is a full-time, permanent classified position represented by American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 3336.
