    Ecology and Environment, Inc. is seeking a Biologist to support work primarily in California and can work out of our offices in San Francisco (preferred), Portland, OR, or Salt Lake City, UT.  This position will support our environmental permitting work and will be responsible for biological studies and environmental evaluations.  Our successful candidate will have established field skills, experience with state and federal permitting requirements, and experience in the preparation of CEQA and NEPA documents.


    ·         Supporting a variety of environmental projects, including proposed and developed energy projects, throughout California and the western U.S. region

    ·         Conducting biological studies including wetland delineations, vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, special-status plant and wildlife surveys, and avian surveys for nesting birds and raptors

    ·         Conducting environmental analyses and preparing CEQA and NEPA documents

    ·         Preparing environmental and other local, state, and federal permit applications and supporting documents including wetlands/404 permits and jurisdictional determinations

    ·         Supporting our team in coordinating and meeting with project developers and site owners/operators to discuss regulatory concerns and policies

    ·         Supporting our team in coordinating and negotiating with federal, state and local agencies regarding permit compliance


    ·         Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related discipline

    ·         3+ years of relevant experience and excellent field skills with including wetland delineations, vegetation surveys, avian, wildlife, and threatened/endangered species surveys

    ·         Knowledge and experience with CEQA and NEPA compliance, and experience preparing CEQA and NEPA documents

    ·         Experience with federal and state environmental laws as they apply to biological resources

    ·         Current working knowledge of California resource regulations and permit processes

    ·         Current working knowledge of Endangered Species Act, Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act, and Habitat Conservation Plans

    ·         Strong research and analytical skills and the ability to assess environmental impacts

    ·         Clear written and verbal communication skills, including ability to adapt writing style for different audiences

    ·         Strong work ethic and ability to manage several projects/demands simultaneously

    ·         Proficient with MS Office Suite and Internet research applications

    ·         Experience working on large-scale, complex projects with client and agency interaction and experience conducting mitigation/construction monitoring in California preferred

    ·         Ability to travel to support business needs (approximately 30%)
