We are currently seeking enthusiastic experienced Biological Field Technicians in our Portland, OR office to assist with biological and botanical surveys in eastern Oregon and potentially throughout the western US. The Biological Field Technicians work begins in early April through early June with possibility for extension.
Conduct general wildlife and habitat, threatened and endangered species, and botanical species surveys
Opportunities for wetland delineations may arise
Surveys will be completed following established protocols
This position requires extensive travel during the field season, with some day trips from Portland and overnight travel for up to 10 days anticipated
Travel will include hotels
The ideal candidate will have experience conducting field work, including surveying, and hiking in remote areas
Following fieldwork, office tasks may include data entry and assisting with report preparation
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or related field, or working toward this type of degree with a minimum of 12 semester hours
Knowledge and/or experience identifying wildlife or botanical species and conducting field work
Experience with electronic field data collection devices and software (GPS units, ArcPad, etc)
Ability to use standard office software (excel, word, etc)
Experience with other natural resources surveys (botany/vegetation surveys, wetland delineations) a plus
Attention to detail and good communication skills
Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enjoy working outdoors
A strong background of coursework and/or experience in wildlife biology or other environmental field and conducting field work is important
Attention to detail, ability to work independently, willingness to work as part of team, and the ability to stay positive and effective during long days in the field are critical
Applicants must be willing to work in sometimes difficult conditions
Physical challenges typically encountered may include long off-trail hikes, steep slopes, snakes, ticks, 4X4 roads, and extremes of hot and cold
The successful applicant will be safety conscious, and continually assess ways to mitigate hazards
Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and have experience driving a four-wheel drive pickup truck on rough terrain
