Northwest Association of Environmental Professionals

DEI Scholarship: Promotional Materials

We are so excited to offer this scholarship in order to encourage the next generation of environmental professionals and bring much-needed diversity to our field.

Here's the tricky thing: because NWAEP is an organization for professionals in the field — people who are already in the industry — we don't have a lot of students in our midst.

We need the help of NWAEP Members to reach the people we're trying to help!

If you...

  • know any students (especially from a diverse background) who are enrolled in environmental science/STEM in Washington or Oregon schools...
  • are still in contact with the teachers and/or program where you got your degree...
  • are willing to reach out to the student service department at your alma mater (Career and/or Community Engagement Center? Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion?) that could promote this scholarship to their students...

...we hope you'll take a moment to pass along information about NWAEP's DEI Scholarship!

To help you help us, we have prepared two versions of a flyer (standard and snazzy) and some sample wording for an email. Feel free to download and share, send, email, snap, snail-mail, post, or otherwise pass it along.

Thank you!

Q: Why does NWAEP offer a scholarship for networking, instead of tuition?

A: Good question! We have a couple of reasons.

Firstly, because we're a networking organization: cultivating relationships is what we do!

Secondly, because we recognize that it can be hard for people to make professional connections — especially if they're from a group that's underrepresented in a "traditional" field (like ours). The networking opportunities our scholarship offers would benefit anyone soon-to-be finishing their studies and entering the job market. Scholarship recipient(s) are introduced to people who will be their future bosses and colleagues, and they can gain insight into career paths, companies, and jobs.
